Attic Insulation Top-Up To R-60
An attic insulation top-up blows fresh cellulose over the layer already in place and lifts the attic to R-60. For a chilly top floor in an older Orléans house, it is the quickest fix there is.
Details and pricesThe Ontario attic insulation rebate comes from the Home Renovation Savings program, run across the province by Save on Energy together with Enbridge Gas. Its attic-only stream pays up to $1,250 once a thin attic is brought to R-50, and it does not ask for a home energy assessment first.
Every figure on this page was last checked October 2026 against the program website. Rebate money comes from the program, not from us, and nothing here is a promise that your attic will qualify.
How much attic insulation rebate you can get depends on the insulation already in place. Starting at R-12 or less and finishing at R-50 earns up to $1,250. Starting between R-13 and R-25 earns up to $1,000, and starting between R-26 and R-35 earns up to $800.
A cathedral ceiling or flat roof has its own two amounts: $750 for R-25 or less taken to R-28, and $650 for R-12 or less taken to R-20. In every case the payout is capped at half the project cost after tax, and the whole accessible attic has to be insulated, not one bay or one corner.
The other way to an attic insulation rebate is the multi-measure route. A registered energy advisor visits before and after, you complete more than one upgrade, and the attic amounts rise to $1,500, $1,200 or $900 by the same starting bands, with $780 for a cathedral or flat roof.
On this route the homeowner picks any contractor they like. That matters, because the attic-only stream is tied to a short contractor list, which the next section covers.
The applicant owns the home, and the home is detached, semi-detached, a row townhouse, a townhouse that is not stacked, or a mobile home on a permanent foundation. If gas heats the house, the program wants an Enbridge Gas account in good standing plus a furnace or boiler running on that gas. If electricity, propane, oil or wood heats it, the house must draw from Ontario's grid.
Stacked townhouses are out, and so is a home lived in for six months or less. An address that already took an attic insulation rebate from Enbridge, Save on Energy or another Ontario program cannot take a second one. Landlords can apply for a rental, and a seasonal cottage may qualify.
The attic-only attic insulation rebate is filed by the installer, and only contractors on the program's participating list can file it. When we checked, registration was closed and no new contractors were being added. The six names posted were Brand Insulation, EcoComfort, George Kent, Great Northern Insulation, Home Depot and Solidcare.
Before you book rebate work with any company, open the list on homerenovationsavings.ca and read it yourself. If the company you want is not there, the assessment route still lets you use any contractor and still pays an attic insulation rebate.
The program website posts no end date. Contractors on the list report that it is currently scheduled to end November 30, 2026, that it was already extended once from November 30, 2025, that it might be extended again, and that it pays first come, first served while funds last.
If you are counting on the attic insulation rebate, confirm the date and the amounts on the program website before you sign anything.
We can measure your attic, tell you its depth and R-value today, and write up a price for taking it to R-60 whether or not an attic insulation rebate is in play. Call (343) 301-5501, or read about the attic insulation top-up and the rest of our work on the home page.
Two of these often go together in Orléans, such as sealing the ceiling and then topping it up.

Cellulose attic insulation is blown in as loose fill and settles into a dense, even layer across the whole attic floor. It reaches the low corners at the eaves where batts often stop short.

Attic insulation removal pulls out old fill that is flattened, dirty or damaged, so the attic can be sealed and refilled properly. It leaves through a sealed vacuum hose and goes away in bags.

Attic air sealing plugs the openings between your living space and the attic above. Heated air rises out through pot lights, wire holes, vent stacks and the hatch, carrying moisture along with it.

Ice dams start when warmth leaking out of the house softens roof snow from underneath and the water freezes again at the cold overhang. Ice dams then hold back more meltwater, which can creep under the shingles and stain the ceiling.

Wet attic insulation holds little heat, and left damp it can feed mould on the roof boards. We find out where the water came from, take out the damaged material, and reinsulate once the wood is dry.

Vermiculite insulation is a light, pebbly loose fill in silver-gold to grey-brown. Some vermiculite insulation sold in Canada before 1990, including the Zonolite brand, came from a mine with natural asbestos in it. Not all of it contains asbestos, and nobody can tell by looking.

Two numbers drive attic insulation cost: how many square feet the attic floor covers and how many inches it needs. You get the going rate when you call and a firm written price after the free check.
