Attic Insulation Top-Up To R-60
An attic insulation top-up blows fresh cellulose over the layer already in place and lifts the attic to R-60. For a chilly top floor in an older Orléans house, it is the quickest fix there is.
Details and prices
We work on one part of the house: the attic. We top up thin insulation, blow in cellulose, remove old or damaged insulation, and seal the ceiling against air leaks for homes across Orléans and the east end of Ottawa.
Every job we take on is fully insured. Prices are put in writing before any work begins.
Most people want a rough cost before they let anyone into the house, so we give one on the first call from the attic's size and today's Ontario rates. The free check then turns that range into a firm figure.
Once the quote is signed, the price holds. If we find something unexpected, we stop and show you before adding anything.
We go up into the attic, not just look through the hatch. We measure the floor area, check the depth of the old layer in several spots, look at the roof boards for frost marks or stains, and note every opening that needs sealing.
You get photos of what we saw, so the quote is easy to follow.
Before any new fill goes in, ruler stakes are set across the attic floor. The cellulose is blown to the mark on each stake, and you can read them from the hatch when we finish.
Your invoice records the finished depth and the R-value reached.
The 1970s homes in Queenswood Heights and Convent Glen often have thin original insulation. The townhome rows across Orléans share long attics divided by party walls. Newer homes in Avalon and Chapel Hill South usually have enough depth but can still leak at pot lights and bathroom fans.
Knowing those patterns helps us price accurately on the first call.
The insulation machine stays outside, and only a hose comes in. Floors, stairs and the hallway under the hatch are covered, and the old insulation leaves in sealed bags.
Ask anything on the first call: how long the work takes, whether you need to be home, what happens to the old material, and how the hatch will be left. Plain answers on the phone save time for both of us.
On the day, the person running the job walks you through the plan before the hose comes in, and again at the end with the photos. If something in the attic looks different from what we expected, you hear about it right away, before it changes the price.

Details and prices
Cellulose attic insulation is blown in as loose fill and settles into a dense, even layer across the whole attic floor. It reaches the low corners at the eaves where batts often stop short.
Details and prices
Attic insulation removal pulls out old fill that is flattened, dirty or damaged, so the attic can be sealed and refilled properly. It leaves through a sealed vacuum hose and goes away in bags.
Details and prices
Attic air sealing plugs the openings between your living space and the attic above. Heated air rises out through pot lights, wire holes, vent stacks and the hatch, carrying moisture along with it.

Ice dams start when warmth leaking out of the house softens roof snow from underneath and the water freezes again at the cold overhang. Ice dams then hold back more meltwater, which can creep under the shingles and stain the ceiling.
Details and prices
Wet attic insulation holds little heat, and left damp it can feed mould on the roof boards. We find out where the water came from, take out the damaged material, and reinsulate once the wood is dry.

Vermiculite insulation is a light, pebbly loose fill in silver-gold to grey-brown. Some vermiculite insulation sold in Canada before 1990, including the Zonolite brand, came from a mine with natural asbestos in it. Not all of it contains asbestos, and nobody can tell by looking.

The Ontario attic insulation rebate comes from the Home Renovation Savings program, run across the province by Save on Energy together with Enbridge Gas. Its attic-only stream pays up to $1,250 once a thin attic is brought to R-50, and it does not ask for a home energy assessment first.

Two numbers drive attic insulation cost: how many square feet the attic floor covers and how many inches it needs. You get the going rate when you call and a firm written price after the free check.
